Refuse Collector job in Canada. Looking for a position as a Refuse Collector job in Canada? REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF WOOD BUFFALO offers CAD 41 hourly for the Refuse Collector position. The Refuse Collector, under general supervision, is responsible for transporting garbage and recyclables from designated collection stations throughout the territory to an authorized landfill or transfer station. Gather trash along the prescribed route and at the appointed time, then transport it to the collection truck and load it in. Drop off the collected items at the designated location. Before driving, make sure the car has passed all necessary safety, mechanical, and hydraulic inspections. Capability to handle a wide range of machinery in a number of settings, with an eye for seeing even the smallest of flaws in the machinery.

Job responsibilities and duties:

As a worker, you will have to do and be responsible for the following:

  • Capability to handle a wide range of machinery in a number of settings, with an eye for seeing even the smallest of flaws in the machinery.
  • Proven familiarity with workplace risks, waste symbolism, signs, PPE use, and other safety procedures required by law or company policy.
  • Familiarity with all local ordinances, government policies, and transfer station procedures pertaining to solid waste management.
  • Excellent powers of observation and focus, particularly in the context of driving and operating machinery.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals in a professional and courteous manner, making good decisions and wise choices under pressure.
  • Capacity to take direction well both orally and in writing, maintain minimal records, interact politely with coworkers, and accomplish team goals.
  • Upbeat demeanor and a drive to deliver first-rate service to customers.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and calculations useful for determining truck loads.
  • Operate the collection truck in accordance with all applicable traffic, safety, and loading policies and procedures.

    OVERVIEW

  • Help instruct other employees how to operate the garbage truck, skid steer, 5-ton truck, 1-ton truck, and air compressor utilized in waste management and recycling operations.
  • If problems with littering or parking are preventing trash and recycling from being collected, please let Bylaw and the foreman know right away.
  • Keep the vehicles used for collecting spotless at all times.
  • Regularly check oil, add windshield washer fluid and DEF, and perform other simple mechanical maintenance on the collection truck as needed.
  • Keep all necessary machinery well-oiled and fueled.
  • Keep a journal of the equipment’s condition, perform routine maintenance, and report any operational or maintenance issues to the foreman every day.
  • Get all documentation, inspections, and safety reports done before and after each trip.
  • Document all daily collections and keep records.
