Following BC SPCA Animal Transfer Protocols, the Animal Transfer Driver is responsible for the secure transportation of animals from outside sources to BC SPCA locations and within BC SPCA locations. Keeping the transfer vehicle in good working order and making sure the animals in their care are treated well during transport according to the Five Freedoms and the Animal Transfer Protocols.

Job responsibilities and duties:

As a worker, you will have to do and be responsible for the following:

  • Collaborates effectively with the management, the animal transfer program, the branch managers, the shelter employees, and the volunteers as needed to carry out the responsibilities listed below.
  • The person in charge of collecting papers at pickup places is responsible for delivering it to the appropriate place or driver.
  • Loading animals destined for the branch into the transfer vehicle using low-stress handling; Ensuring the transfer vehicle is loaded with appropriate-sized animal crates
  • photographs as necessary; Adhering to the BC SPCA Animal Transfer Protocols.
  • Helps in animal unloading at destination or handoff to the subsequent driver.
  • The ability to pick up from multiple locations in a day and perform a shift of up to 12 hours (with breaks)
  • After completing a transfer, you’ll clean the kennels and the car.
  • Keeps the vehicle(s) used for transport in tip-top shape, as required by Transport Action.
  • Immediately notifies the manager of the animal transfer program of any problems encountered with the vehicles.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor when working with Society personnel, volunteers, external contacts, and the general public; provides timely responses to inquiries; and suggests further resources when unable to provide an immediate solution.
  • We have on-call trains and substitute drivers available.
  • Carries out supplementary tasks as required.
